Miss Rice Park 1979

10 Aug

Anyone recognize any of these lovely ladies?

The Miss Rice Park competition was held in conjunction with a fashion show titled “Beautiful People in Fashions” to raise funds to improve Rice Park. Proceeds from this event went towards completing payments on a concession stand and tennis court construction. This event was held at Ripley High School and admission was $2 per person.

I am so happy you found this newspaper clip, I don’t have it and I am in the photo (Sharon Watkins). Awesome

Thanks for commenting. I’m glad that you got to see it. Do you have any memories of the competition that you would like to share?

Tiffany, first let me thank you for your dedication and for the accurate, and available archives of Lauderdale Co. History. It is the best and I tell everyone about it. As far as memories of the competition, I was not in it to win. But it was a great experience to prepare me for the future. I still go back to the warm fee lings, acceptance, and self confidence that I obtained from my Lauderdale Co upbringing. I did not know it then, but it was and is a blessing to have participated. I thank my Father, Rogers Watkins and extended family for pushing me. My Aunt Anna Rose Watkins always saved the newspaper clippings and attended everything I participated in. Many fond memories. Blessing to you and your family
        Sharon
